The Bischofshof was built by Michael Pruckmayr between 1721 and 1726 to plans by Jakob Prandtauer for the Abbot of Kremsmünster. There is a magnificent wrought-iron gate on the stairway by Master Valentine Hofmann, which was added in 1727. The Baroque stucco work in the interior, for example in the bishop’s offices and the audience room, is by Domenico Carlone who received payment in steel bars from the Abbott for his troubles. The building remains the seat of the Bishop until this day.
