The impressive Amphitheatre Petronell, also known as Amphitheatre II, is about 700 metres from the Open Air Museum Petronell. It is one of two in Petronell, in this case it belongs to the civilian settlement. The amphitheatre, constructed in the 2nd centurt AD, is an elliptical building, which once had huge wooden doors, with a capacity for 13,000 or more spectators. To the east and west are the remains of what may be the cages and pits for animals. After lying under layers of rubble and earth for hundreds of years, it was excavated in the 1920s and partially reconstructed.
