High above Innsbruck and seen from miles around this is one of the most important sights of the capital of Tirol. Founded by Archduke Ferdinand II, the museum in the Lower Castle holds the Chamber of Art and Curiosities and the Armouries. Exhibits include scientific items, toys, goblets made of rhinoceros horn, music and measuring instruments as well as rare examples of armour. The upper part of the palace houses the Habsburg’s portrait gallery with more than 200 portraits on display, including precious works by artists such as Lucas Cranach, Sir Anthony More, Titian, Van Dyck and Diego Velázquez.
