The Stiftsmuseum, one of the first of its type, Klosterneuburg was founded by Abbott Ambros Lorenz in the late 18th century. The collection of masterpieces is devoted to painting, sculpture and the arts from the Middle Ages to the present. The artists represented range from Raphael Donner to Egon Schiele, however the most important work of art is the cycle of paintings by Rueland Frueauf the Younger, from 1505, showing the foundation legend of the monastery.
