The monastery church of Klosterneuburg is the oldest part of the complex of buildings which form the establishment. The basic Romanesque elements of the building date from 1136 although the towers were rather unsympathetically altered in the 19th century. The interior is sumptuously decorated in the Baroque style and includes frescos by J. G. Greiner and J. M. Rottmayr. High altar boats an altarpiece by Johann Georg Schmidt. The exceptionally ornate Baroque organ, built by Johann Freundt of Passau, dates f4rom 1642. There are many other fine works of art but the ornately carved choir stalls, which depict the coats of arms the Austrian Crown Lands, deserve special mention.
