Schloss Ulmerfeld was built by Bishop Konrad III, as a residence, in 1321 on land given to Friesing Abbey by King Otto III of Bavaria in 995. The building was given protected status in 1965 and was purchased by the municipality of Amstetten in 1975. The castle boasts many fine architectural features such as the frescos in the Gothic chapel and the panelling in the bishop’s room. There is a large collection of weaponry in the tower, much of associated with the Amstetten master Ernst Urschitz. The arcaded courtyard is frequently used for concerts, theatrical performances and film festivals during the summer months.
