The Türkenkapelle on Hochwolkersdorf’s Kirchenplatz dates from the year 1687 and celebrates deliverance from the Turkish invaders. The column was built in thanks for the end of the second Turkish Siege, in 1683, by a local shoemaker. The terrible deprivations of the Turkish siege followed hard on an outbreak of the Black Death which decimated the population of Europe. Deliverance from the plague is celebrated by another local monument, the Pestsäule, which can be found on the outskirts of the village on the road to Wiener Neustadt.
