The Tropfstein cave, a natural monument, is located on the 476 metre high Buchenberg. The caves were opened by military engineers stationed at Klosterneuburg in 1928 so that they could be visited by the public. The cave, which is rich in geological features, is seventy metres long and twelve metres deep with a height of up to twelve metres. Interestingly because it is only just below the surface, the cave is also home to a flourishing selection of wildlife; bats, butterflies, birds and spiders. Archaeologists have also unearthed lots of evidence of human habitation from as long ago as the Stone Age.
