Baden’s imposing Rathaus was rebuilt to the plans of the city architect in the years 1814 to 1815 following a city fire in 1812. The building replaced the old 16th century town hall. Between 1893 and 1895 it was extended and modified but still retained its classical style. The façade boasts representations of justice and intelligence, in the form of reliefs by Josef Klieber and the central figure is of the city goddess "Badenia", which was executed in 1895 by Franz Abel. Until 1985 the building accommodated the city district court and prison.
