Amongst the oldest buildings in Gloggnitz is the chapel dedicated to St. Othmar, sometimes called the Marktkapelle. The supposed year of construction isn’t certain but it predates the Benedictine Abbey which was founded in 1094. The chapel was once at the centre of the town and suffered sever depredations over the centuries. In its present form there is evidence of its Gothic origins, recognisable in the delicate tracery of its windows and the characteristic flying buttresses.
