The Nähmaschinen Museum is Austria’s biggest sewing machine collection showing exhibits from the middle of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. The magnificent and beautifully manufactured machines in the collection originate from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Although they were developed first commercially in the 18th century, by the 19th and 20th century these machines were an essential household item. The zenith of demand for sewing machines came to an end when consumers were more affluent and able to purchase clothing more cheaply.
