Gutenstein’s Servite monastery, founded by Johann Balthasar II, was built in 1672 to the design of the architect Sebastian Rosenstingl and further extended in 1724. The monastery is surrounded by devotional gardens, containing chapels, grottos and wood and stone crosses, criss-crossed by well marked paths as befits a popular place of pilgrimage. On the exterior of the building are the coats of arms of the Hoyos and Hohenfeldt families. The buildings are frequently used for exhibitions and concerts.
