The picturesque Seeschloss Orth lies on a small rocky island at the northern end of the Traunsee. It is connected to the lakeside by a wooden bridge and is presently used as a conference centre and wedding venue. The castle, one of the oldest in the Salzkammergut, dates from around 900 AD. The original building was rebuilt following fires in 1626 and 1634 but still retains many of its original Gothic features such as the external staircase and beautiful triangular courtyard which is used periodically for concerts. The small castle chapel has some early Baroque frescos and was a parish church from 1784 to 1988.
