Twenty minutes walk from Thunau, via the Goldberggasse, can be found the excavations of 10th century fortifications of the early Middle Ages. The remains are of a stronghold constructed by the Slavs with an associated settlement and church. The castle only survived until the middle of the 11th century when it was destroyed by the Babenbergs. A reconstruction of the original southern gate tower and the foundations of the church can be seen amidst the original earthworks.
