The salt of the Dürrnberg Mountain gives its name to the famous city and the province of Salzburg. The mining of this ‘white gold’ generated the wealth which financed the building of the baroque Aldstadt in the city. At the Salzwelten Salzburg you can experience the history of salt production from its beginnings in the 6th century BC to the present. In addition to enjoying the historic exhibits you can travel into the workings on the mine railway and take a trip by boat across the underground salt lake.
