The Römerturm, literally Tower of the Romans, is situated in the middle of Dorfgastein, next to the Hotel Römerhof, one of the oldest taverns in the Gastein valley. The historic old tower, constructed in 1340, is the central feature of the town. It probably owes its name to its ancient origins and might be situated on the sight of an older structure since the Romans settled the Gastein Valley more than 2,000 years ago because of the towns location on an ancient trade route. On the ground floor there is a wonderfully atmospheric modern bar.
