The Renner-Villa is a museum for contemporary history based in the former home of Dr. Karl Renner, the politician, scholar and sociologist. He was also the first post war Austrian Chancellor and, in late 1945, he became the first President of the Second Republic. The museum was acquired by the museum association in 1978 after it had passed out of the Renner family’s hands. The main exhibitions trace such historical changes as the development of Europe from a collection of many states to the European Union and the effects of the Second World War. A significant amount of space is devoted to Renner himself and his work for the First and Second Republics, from the farmer’s son to the federal president.
