The Mariensäule was built as plague column between 1731 and 1732 to plans drawn up by the famous Austrian master builder Johann Lukas of Hildebrandt who also gave the parish church its Baroque makeover. Three statues arranged in the niches of the triangular base of the column support three lateral pyramids carrying a statue of The Virgin Mary standing on a globe. The inscription on the monument reads: Donated by Count Friedrich Karl Schönborn-Buchheim The Bishop of Bamberg and Würzburg in the Year 1713. Unfortunately the original tablet with the inscription on was broken during the restoration of 1970.
