The Baroque Stadtpfarrkirche was constructed between 1696 and 1702 around an existing ancient tower which was adapted to Baroque form by replacing its original pyramidal roof with a bulb shaped bell room. The building of the splendid front was carried out between 1738 and 1740, completing the church as we see it today. Over the main entrance there is a representation of the Ascension of St. Johannes of Nepomuk who was particularly admired during the Baroque. To the sides there are the statues of the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus. High up in a niche there is a statue of the Archangel Michael casting Satan down into the abyss with a flaming sword.
