The Pfarrkirche of Saint Maria Himmelfahrt was built to the design of the Viennese architect Victor Rumpelmayer between 1881 and 1883. The last stone, taken from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, was laid on 2nd September 1883. Rumpelmayer designed the church, with its impressive 42 metre high front tower, in the neo-Gothic style and this is evident in the remarkable interior. The two manual organ was donated by Margarette Krupp. During the Second World War, the church was severely damaged by flood and bombing and it wasn’t until 1966 that an overall renovation was accomplished. The new interior was arranged by the painter Franz Drapela.
