The Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche "Maria Attersee" on the Kirchberg, overlooking the lake, is Attersee’s most prominent landmark. The original Gothic church was converted to the Baroque style by the master builders Jakob Pawanger and Josef Mathias Götz from Passau for their patron Franz Ferdinand Graf Khevenhüller between 1722 and 1728. The interior still houses two Gothic survivals in the form of a statue of the Madonna on the high altar, statues of Saints Peter and Paul and a relief of the Magi.
