The Stadtpfarrkirche, dedicated to St. Margareta, Queen of Scotland (1046 to 1093), was built between 1910 and 1917 to the design of the architect Ludwig Baumann to replace the much smaller Marienkirche as the parish church. The church, which Baumann designed as a tribute to the great Baroque architects, is crowned by a monumental 43 metre high copper-clad dome and is fronted by two 28 metre towers. The interior is dominated by the striking high altar constructed from 20 tonnes of bronze produced in the Arthur Krupp AG factory and has a reliquary casket containing the shoulder bones of the patron saint.
