The Bad Gastein Pfarrkirche, built by subscription between 1498 and 1507 on the site of a much older establishment possibly dating from the 9th century, dominates the pristine, pedestrianised centre of Bad Hofgastein. It is said to be the grandest and most beautiful example of Gothic architecture in the whole of SalzburgerLand. Reconstructions due to fire damage took place in 1596 and 1752. Its most notable internal feature is the superb Baroque altar which was created by the painter Josef Andra Eisl and the sculptor Paul Modlhammer.
