In 1203 the Archbishop Eberhard II. of Salzburg raised the chapel of Wolfkersdorf to the status of an independent parish, having formerly been part of the parish of Bromberg. In about 1329 the modest chapel, dedicated to St. Laurentius, was fortified with earthworks and a ditch. In 1737 the old military church was partly rebuilt, after suffering damage during the Reformation period, and a small wooden tower was added. A major renovation in the second half the 19th century provided the building with its tower, a vestry, a confessional chapel and a chapel dedicated to the Mother of God.
