The Pfarrkirche of Aggsbach Markt, which is dedicated to Maria of the Ascension, is a late Romanesque, three-hulled, arched basilica with a long central nave and a ribbed Gothic crossing. The Gothic choir was added to in 1780 with extraordinary stuccoed marble. In the niches, between Ionic columns with gilded capitals, there are three outstanding Late Baroque sculptures of The Mother of God, St. Joachim and St. Anna. Above these sculptures, there is a beautiful painting of St. Josef by the school of Kremser Schmidt. There are also two remarkable wood panel pictures also from the Late Baroque. Inside and outside the church there are many ancient tombs which are a reminder of Aggsbach’s historic past.
