The "Alte Huf- und Wagenschmiede" is a practical museum devoted to the craft of the blacksmith. The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Gmünd, on the historic Stadtplatz, and the enterprise was first documented in 1569 although it probably dates from much earlier times. The forge is in fully working order for the production and fitting of horse shoes and iron cart wheel tyres. There are two sets of traditional bellows and, additionally, the characteristic apparatus for fitting the cart wheel tyres.
