Gloggnitz’s Bergbau- und Heimatmuseum has twenty rooms devoted to the history of mining in the area. Austria has a long history of minerals exploration and a strong mining tradition and this is evident in the range of exhibits in the museum. The topics covered include lignite mining around Hart, gypsum mining in Schottwien, iron ore mining around Reichenau and other mining activities in the Neunkirchen area. In addition there are sections of the museum devoted to geology and mineralogy. A special attraction for children is the reconstruction of a mine in the basement of the museum. The local history section is notable for its collection of objects from the early Christian Köttlach culture.
