Hollabrunn’s slate paved main square is surrounded by elegant town houses, many of which are in the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau, style. The square is dominated by the imposing town hall with its striking bell tower and graced by the Florianibrunnen fountain which was built in 1862 in memory of many fires which broke out over the years. There is a 17th century plague column which was erected in 1681 ingratitude for deliverance from the Black Death. The statues of holy firures around its base were added in 1713.
