Burg Klammstein is the oldest historic building in the Gastein valley. The castle, which was first mentioned in the 13th century although certainly on the site of a much older, prehistoric settlement, functioned as the administrative centre for the Gastein valley until 1524. In 1972, after falling into ruin over the centuries, it was converted into a museum. The castle museum concentrates on the history of Gastein. There are opportunities to partake of a canle lit mediaeval banquet accompanied by local folk music or to go tobogganing or try your hand at curling.
