On the wall of the hotel "zur Krone" on Linzergasse is a plaque declaring this building to be the birthplace of Karl Adam Kaltenbrunner, one of Enns’ most distinguished authors. Kaltenbrunner was educated in Enns and Linz where he joined the civil service. He soon established a reputation in Austrian literary circles and, in 1842, moved to Vienna where he remained for the next 25 years. His literary output is wide ranging; dialect poetry, novels, drama and folk stories. Above all he was a patriot and wrote song lyrics and verse celebrating his love for his country.
