The Kaiservilla was given to the Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elizabeth as a wedding present by Emperor Franz Karl. The childless Franz Karl and his wife, Sophie von Bayern, had previously come to Bad Ischl to take the salt water baths which successfully cured their condition. Franz Joseph and his wife visited the spa town annually after their marriage, which took place in the building which is now the city museum. During her residence here Elizabeth was inspired to write many poems about Bad Ischl and its surroundings. In the grounds of the villa is the Marmorschlössl, a delightful house built for Elizabeth in the English cottage style. Today the villa is used for special events.
