The Hammerschmiede dates from the 18th century when it was subject to control by the Carthusian monastery of Aggsbach. After the dissolution of the monastery it passed into the hands of the local ruler. The mill was used commercially until 1956 when, because of the death of its last owner, the water supply system, water wheels and hammers fell into disrepair. Despite having a new wheel made, which allowed the large hammer to be operated again, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the mill was renovated and brought back to working condition.
