The Gastein Höhenweg summit trail, established between 1934 and 1938, runs from Bad Hofgastein to Bad Gastein along the valley at an altitude of about 1000 metres. The pathway was formerly associated with the protestant Martin Lodinger, an acquaintance of Martin Luther, who fled along it from Bad Gastein by persecutors. This easy walk leads to the spectacular natural monument, the Gaudenerer Gorge that is so precipitous that it is crossed by a tunnel almost under the waterfall. Along the way, if you are interested in geology, you can see a huge variety of difference minerals.
