The Braucommune Freistadt is a brewery which is wholly owned by the citizens of Freistadt. In 1363 Duke Rudolf IV awarded the citizens of Freistadt the privilege to brew their own beer. In the late 18th century the citizens formed a commune to brew beer in a newly constructed brewery, completed in 1780. Originally the beer was brewed solely with the purpose of supplying the population of Freistadt but today we can all sample the traditional nectar. The brewery runs various tours of the installation including beer, food and a souvenir gift.
