The bath, from which part of the name of this building derives, was probably used by the Romans and is first mentioned in 1357. In 1531 Emperor Ferdinand I gave the bath to the citizens of Baden as a replacement for those destroyed during the Turkish siege. The present building was erected in 1821. The name Frauenbad does not indicate that the bath was only reserved for women but because the building is on the foundations of a Gothic church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. The Frauenbad is used for exhibitions of contemporary art nowadays.
