The Museum für Volkskunst has an intriguing collection of folk and monastic art from the Mühlviertel region of Austria and Bavaria. The museum houses an astonishing 1000 or more exhibits including one hundred carved cribs, over three thousand crib figures and eighteen mechanical constructions not including a mechanical crib showing fifteen miners and a mountain spirit. The museum’s slogan is “everything moves and everything makes music” and so the collection includes musical automata such as mechanical pianos, harmonicas and violins
