The architects Karl Reiner and Karl Badstieber designed and built the Kaiser Franz-Josef Museum in 1905 for the Friends of Lower Austria in 1905 to accommodate the collections of the researchers researchers Carl Calliano, Gustav Calliano, Anton Schiestl and Johann Wagenhofer. The museum was accorded a huge honour when the emperor, Franz Josef I, gave permission that this museum was allowed to bear his name. After the Sceond World War the museum was extensively plundered but, thankfully, was revived in 1965 as a repository for handicrafts and folk art.
