The Kaiserhaus was built in the year 1792 by Baron von Gontard and later came into the possession of the von Arnstein family. On the 24th April 1813 it was purchased by Emperor Franz I and converted into the imperial summer residence and served this purpose until 1834. During the First World War, between 1916 and 1918, the last Austrian emperor, Karl I, lived here with his family and the house was the home of the Austrian supreme military command. Karl hosted a historically important meeting in the house with the German emperor Wilhelm.
