The 15th century Sankt Nikolaus Kirche, almost unchanged since it was built, is the oldest historic building in the Gastein Valley. The church, which is built from domestic materials, contains fine vaulting and Gothic frescos of 1480 by the Master of Schröder showing the Calvary and Christ Rescuing Adam and Eve from Hell. The granite floor of the church came from Böckstein not far away and the material for the stone pulpit, made from green serpentine, came from Luggau.
