From Braunsberg there are wonderful views over the Danube National Park, the city of Hainburg and as far as Bratislava in Slovakia. The area is notable for its unusually exotic flora and fauna, some of it unique to the mountain. A Celtic fortification existed on the top of Braunsberg from the 2nd century BC but it was destroyed in about 40 BC and only traces of the buildings now exist. The Celts controlled Danube trade until the Roman takeover. Visitors can see a reconstruction of the simple wooden fortifications and earthworks. Finds from the site can be seen in the local museum in Hainburg’s Wienertor.
