As well as having a superb trompe l’œil (trick the eye) mural in its interior and a noteworthy Calvary display, where life-size figures depict the Stations of the Cross, the church is most visited for the Haydn Mausoleum. Erected by Prince Paul Esterházy in 1932 on the occasion of the bicentenary of Josef Haydn’s birth, it first only housed Haydn’s decapitated body; the head having been stolen then bequeathed to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. Reunited in 1954, the head and body now lie in the marble tomb surrounded by four sprawling cherubs.
