The spectacular falls on the Gasteiner Ache are the centrepiece of the town and, despite the worthiness of Bad Gastein’s other attractions, are worth a visit in their own right. The falls, which drop a total of 341 metres in three stages, are fed by water from the Hohe Tauern National Park. Not only are the falls the emblem of the town but also one of the most beautiful in Austria. They are best viewed from the stone bridge, Steinbrücke, which was built across the falls dates in 1840.
