Pongauer Dom is the parish church of St. Johann im Pongau. The church, which dominates the town and overlooks the Salzach valley, is first mentioned in 924 but the present building dates largely from the mid 19th century having been rebuilt in neo Gothic style after a disastrous fire in 1855. The double chapel dedicated to St. Anna and St. Michael was built in 1301 and was completely renovated in 1520. The altars, one of which was designed by Joseph Ripper, date from the late 19th century. Nearby is the Annakappelle, a 14th century former an ossuary containing important 16th century wood carvings of St. Heinrich & St. Kunigunde.
