There are nearly 400 globes on display in this museum linked to the Austrian National Library; the only one of its kind in the world. Although globes have been recorded as kept at the library since the 16th century the museum was founded in 1956. The two rooms house both celestial and terrestrial globes, some which date back over 200 hundred years, as well as various, ornately decorated, scientific instruments such as armillary spheres, telluria and planetaria. An assortment of the library’s map collection is also on display including an upside-down map of the world from the 1154.
