As one of the oldest of its kind in Europe, this Alpine garden is well worth including on a visit the Belvedere. Situated south of the Oberes Belvedere it contains thousands of plants normally only found in alpine regions, some quite rare. The garden, which features bridges and a tiny pond, was founded in 1803 by Archduke Erzherzog Johann and was transferred to the Belvedere in 1865. Many of the plants can be purchased and taken home as unusual but rather enchanting souvenirs.
