Gugl Stadium is the home of LASK (Linzer Athletik Sport Klub) football team, claimed to be the third oldest soccer club in Austria. Besides the connection with the local soccer team, the stadium is used for other international events such as athletics. Following the stadium’s 50th birthday in 2002 it has been further developed as Upper Austria’s premier sports venue in addition to which it hosts other cultural events such as pop concerts. There is an active program to encourage local participation in sport.
