The Gerzkopf nature reserve, an elevated area of forest and marsh, is set at an altitude of 1,700 m above sea level and boasts more than fifty species of birds. Visitors will be rewarded with a 360° panoramic view of the high and low Tauern after walking the forest road to the tree line. At the highest point there are the tranquil Schwarze Lacke (black lakes) reflecting the mountain views. The area is a United Nations Environment Programme world conservation site and a Council of Europe Biogenetic Reserve.
