The winding Gerlos Alpenstrasse, which connects the Salzburger Pinzgau and the Tiroler Zillertal, is open all year round and is the route to the famous Krimml waterfalls and the national park in the Pinzgau. The road climbs to an altitude of 1,630 metres over its length of 12 kilometres. It is a panoramic route with wonderful views over the beautiful Salzach valley and the Zillertaler alps. The road approximately follows the route of original the 17th century pass, parts of which remain, but the modern road dates from 1982.
